Is eating lobsters a healthy idea?

Lobsters come with wholesome advantages owing to their rich mineral and vitamin content. Lobsters are one of the healthiest and tastiest seafood out there. However, there is a lot of contradiction when it comes to consuming lobster. While some say it is great for the heart, others state that it is not recommended for high blood pressure patients. We asked our expert Deepshikha Agarwal, dietitian and sports nutritionist who says, “Cooking and consuming lobster correctly is very important to absorb all its nutrients and minerals.” Here are some of the nutrients packed in lobsters: Protein: Lobsters are an excellent source of protein, which helps in building muscle and are a great alternative for athletes. Since lobsters have traces of carbohydrates and are rich in protein, they help aid weight loss too.  Here are 10 protein-rich foods that must be a part of your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids: Being a good source of omega 3 fatty acids and being low in cholesterol, lobsters help prevent heart diseases. The compounds present in lobsters help in reducing the formation of plaque in arteries, thereby ensuring smooth functioning of the heart. Low calorie: Another reason lobsters make it to the list of weight loss food is because they are very low in calories. 100 gms of cooked lobsters contains only 89 calories. Zinc: According to a study published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE, lobsters are a good source of zinc. A deficiency in zinc often causes sweet cravings, thereby contributing to weight gain. Eating lobsters can help increase the intake of zinc in your body and curb or reduce the cravings. Zinc is also required for better immunity and is considered a brain booster. Try adding these foods rich in vitamin B12 to your diet. Best way to eat lobsters Lobsters must be cooked properly to keep all its nutrients intact. Steaming, grilling or baking a lobster at high temperatures is the best way to cook them. Salt and excess oil must be avoided when cooking lobsters. Deep or shallow frying is a strict no-no as lobsters tend to absorb lot of oil, making them very unhealthy and high in calories. Frying also kills all the nutrients. Lobster soup is a healthy alternative too. Lobster rolls or cutlets on sizzlers are not recommended. Lobsters might contain some amount of toxins and hence pregnant women are advised not to eat them.
